x Marc Zero Gravity Circus hit one out of the park last night with the Halowe'en edition of their bimonthly show.

This show featured the latest mountings from acrobats and dancers, as well as decidedly off-beat comedy. ( A sketch featured two women waiting in an abortion clinic, until the puppet version of one's unborn feature appeared as a featureless blob pleading for his own life. Dark ) A taco making contest invited three (of many) costume-wearing audience members up on the stage.

In the end, a comedy duet produced the most over-the-top campy salute to cotton (yes, the fabric) that you could imagine.

Sarah Buski watched over the proceedings from high above the stage, as emcee moon of formidable improvisatory talents.

As she closed out the stage, the theatre erupted with an unexpected zombie attack, which was only thwarted when a Michael Jackson lookalike appeared, and led the entire room in a 'Thriller' dance.

What followed was the most heartfelt standing ovation I've seen in a theatre in 20 years.

This is not neat, dry, intellectual entertainment that is bitten off in tiny nibbles, but broad, bawdy, and bloody popular comedy of the cleverest kind - the kind that brings audiences back without begging them to.

I'll be at the next one and maybe I'll wear my squirrel costume.
