I was riding the rocket home this evening when I stumbled across the TTC's latest set of ads, apparently trying to inform the lowly ridership of the "Top 5 Reasons trains run late"
I don't remember all of them, but here's the top 3.
"Blocking Doors"
"Holding Doors"
"Burning Trash in the Tunnels" (?!?! - has anyone ever seen this?)
I believe the other two reasons are also similary outward facing.
As to the holding the doors comment, as someone that rides in rushhour 3 months of the year, I can tell you that if you are trying to board an east-bound train at the east end of the platform at the Bloor/Yonge interchange, at the end of the day, for some reason the doors are frequrently closing before everyone has had a chance to get off the train, let alone the backlog of people on the platform get on. There is a serious bottleneck on this platform, and if the TTC does not want people to hold doors, they should bloody well give people a chance to board the train. Leaving without taking anyone on the platform is just going to make loading subesquent trains even more chaotic, so if the passengers force the train to wait an extra 15 seconds while they get on, I fail to see how this makes trains late.
The next time you are wondering why your train is late, just remember. It's all your fault.
